Hi Everyone,
Its raining sunscreens from all brands.Latest entry to the market is from VLCC and interesting thing is its a sunscreen gel and not lotion/cream.Hence I decided to pick it up,I am biased towards gel based products. So will this product leave up to its claims? Read along to find out more about it.
My Skin Type:
Oily and acne prone skin.
Key Ingredients:
Aloe Vera, Watermelon, Cucumber Extracts, Camphor, Allantoin, Benzophenon-4.
Price:
Rs.235 for 100grams.
Product Description:
Swatches:
Pro's:
1)Oil-free Sunscreen in a gel base.
2)Sunscreen is Mattifying sunscreen hence suitable for normal-oily skin types.
3)Sunscreen contains hydrating and soothing ingredients like Allantoin,Aloe vera,Cucumber.
4)This is first time I seeing Watermelon extracts in a skin care products. It is rich in anti-oxidants and has anti-ageing benefits.
5)Sunscreen is suitable only for indoors only because of low UV protection factor.
6)It does not make skin oily/greasy upon application. No white cast either.
7)So far it has not caused any breakouts.
8)It absorbs into skin instantly. It leaves behind a cooling sensation.
9)Pleasant fragrance.
Con's:
1)SPF 15 is too low for outdoors.SPF 30+ would have been better.
2)PA+ (Protection Grade) is very low as well.It cannot provide very good sun protection against direct and high UV radiation in outdoors.[The more '+' you see,the higher the sun protection]
3)No information on type of sunscreen agent used if it contains zinc oxide, titanium oxide, sulphonic acid etc.
4)No disclosure of complete ingredient list.
5)Hence without the ingredient list ,it cannot be said if the sunscreen is comedogenic or non-comedogenic.If you have oily-acne prone skin,do a test patch to see if this products suits you.
6)Considering the price for low SPF sunscreen, one can get easily broad spectrum and non-comedogenic sunscreens like Suncote Gel Sunscreen SPF 30,Lotus UV Screen Matte Gel SPF 50,Sunprotect Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50
7)Again due to partial ingredient list, can't say if its Paraben-free.
Directions for use:
Apply sunscreen on cleansed face 20 minutes prior stepping outside in the sun.Reapply if necessary at regular intervals.
Availability:
VLCC products are easily available in all super markets, cosmetic stores and online stores.
Final Verdict:
I am really tempted when I see gel based products. They simple suit oily skin types.I picked it up on Flipkart last month. It does have some good points like it does not make oily or leave a white cast unlike usual sunscreens. Two things I strongly disliked are incomplete ingredient list and low sun protection factor.I can't really say if its non-comedogenic sunscreen. If you have acne prone skin like me do a patch test.Unless you are indoors all the time, this sunscreen is practically useless when you step outside.
Despite its pro's,I don't think I will buy this sunscreen again or recommend it.As mentioned in the cons, they are plenty of other good sunscreen options available at same price in this market.Overall I am not impressed with this product!
